Financial Abuse of the Elderly

Fraud involves deliberately deceiving victims with the promise of goods, services, or other benefits that are nonexistent, unnecessary, never intended to be provided, or grossly misrepresented. Older adults can be susceptible to frauds that involve gaining their trust or communicating a concern for the elder’s wellbeing, or frauds that encourage their victims to make an immediate decision or commitment to purchase products or services. In this video, Dr. Robert W. Parker examines effective ways to help loved ones avoid elder financial abuse, and shares a personal story of his family’s experience with elder fraud.
